Phyllis Ione Hutchinson

Phyllis Ione Hutchinson, age 92, of Joplin, a long time Webb City resident passed away at 7:55 a.m., Wednesday, February 27th, 2013, at home following a prolonged illness.

Phyllis was born August 3rd, 1920 in Commerce, OK and graduated from high school in Carterville, MO. She married John Vee Hutchinson on February 18th, 1939 in Neosho, MO, who preceded her in death on May 4th, 2010. During their 71 years of marriage, they owned and operated Auto Parts Company in Webb City, MO. They traveled the world extensively, also visiting their children on military assignments in exotic locations such as Europe, Australia, and Hawaii. Phyllis especially enjoyed visits to the beach and last put her toes in the sand at Daytona Beach, Florida, in November, 2012.

She was a member of College Heights Christian Church and enjoyed working in the nursery holding the babies. She was previously a member and Sunday School Teacher of First Christian Church of Webb City and also a long time member of Bible Study Fellowship in Joplin. She was well known by family and friends for her culinary talents, and took great pleasure in sharing the bounty from her kitchen. A gracious hostess, a loving mother, and true friend she will be deeply missed by all.

Phyllis was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Gary Dean Bright, and a granddaughter, Debbie Bright Moore. Survivors include two daughters, Carol Sue Bright, and Jean Herrod and husband, Tom, all of Joplin, a son, John Hutchinson and wife Patti, of Orlando, FL., a sister, Carol June Heinritz and husband, Hilmer, Amarillo, TX. Six grandchildren include Gary Dale Bright and wife Janie, Dean Bright and wife, Annette, Jennifer Zumrick and husband, Bob, Thomas D. Herrod and wife, Mary Lynn, John Louis Hutchinson, Chris Hutchinson and wife, Arlene. Fourteen great grandchildren include Jeremy and Ashley Bright; Kristen, Stephen, and Ryan Moore; Gavin Bright, Micha and Seth Brook; Talbott Harrison and wife, Leanna; Hillary Harrison; Whitney and Natalie Herrod; Faseem Ali and Liam Hutchinson. Twin great, great granddaughters are Riley and Mae Harrison.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Mason-Woodard Chapel with Jay St. Clair, Minister, officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. Friday until the service at the chapel. Burial will follow the service on Friday at Mount Hope Cemetery in Webb City, MO.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to the College Heights Christian Church Nursery Department in care of the mortuary. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary of Joplin, Mo.
