Jeffery Edward Slama, age 58, of Joplin, MO, went to be with God on October 16, 2013. He was born November 16, 1954 in Langdon, ND, to Alvin and Rita Slama. He earned an associate degree from North Dakota State School of Science, and graduated from Missouri Southern State University with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. Jeff was a former employee of Motorola (Schaumburg, IL) and later Motorola in Joplin, Digital Voice Inc of Joplin, and Medquist in Joplin/Atlanta GA. He was a lector, server, and usher at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a member of the St. Mary’s softball team for many years. He was a 4th degree member and past Grand Knight of the Joplin Knights of Columbus Council 979 and state Webmaster for the Missouri Knights of Columbus. Jeff was a former scout Cubmaster for Pack 17. He also served on the board of Catholic Charities of SW Missouri and was a volunteer for St. Vincent DePaul Society, Hearts and Hammers, Habitat for Humanity, and GreenTown Joplin. Jeff married Joanne Zadrozny Slama on April 17, 1982. He is survived by two sons, Derek Slama (Justine) of Ames, Iowa and Brandon Slama (Claire) of Columbia, MO, and beloved grandchildren Cora and Jack of Columbia, MO and Mason of Ames, IA. Jeff is survived by one brother, Jerry Slama and wife Kathy of Maplewood, MN, and 9 sisters: Julie Slama of Saint Cloud, MN, Sally Waltz and husband Wayne of Langdon, ND, Debra Larson and husband Larry of Brighton, CO, Janice Rita Slama of Eagan, MN, Mary Wilson and husband George of Plymouth, MN, Cindy Stokes and husband Joe of Coon Rapids, MN, Louise Maixner and husband Frank of Blaine, MN, Carol Mitchell and husband Dave of Michigan City, IN, and Kathy Slama and husband Bob Spomer of Spicer, MN, a sister-in-law, Mary Zadrozny (Eva Dahm) of Naperville, IL, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Jeff was preceded in death by his parents. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (1230 7th Street) on Tuesday, October 22nd at 11:00 am. Reverend Justin Monaghan will officiate. A Prayer Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Monday with a visitation immediately following until 8:00p.m. at Mason-Woodard Chapel.
Jeff will be cremated following services and will be interred on the property of his Joplin home that he loved for over 30 years. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be given to St. Vincent DePaul Society of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Church Building Fund, Joplin Area Catholic Schools and GreenTown Joplin, in care of the mortuary.
