Joyce Ann Johnson age 61 of Columbus, Ks passed away Monday July 27, 2015 at her home. She was born on May 22, 1954 in Columbus, Ks the daughter of Robert Byrl and Flossie Caroline “Frobish” Ruggels. She spent her whole life in Columbus attending Spencer School from the first grade to the eighth and graduated from Columbus Unified High School with the class of 1972. She received her beautician’s certificate from Pittsburg State in 1973. She married Dennis Johnson on April 6, 1973 in Columbus, Ks. Joyce co-owned and co-operated LaPetite Salon and then worked for Autumn Place Nursing Home as a beautician. She was a member of the Sherwin Christian Church of Columbus where she ministered a long side her husband since 1987, she also served as a Cherokee County 4-H leader for years several years, a member of the Golden Plains Llama Association, the Pack Llama Trial Association and loved to sew. She sewed for her kids and grandkids but also for a llama tack equipment and supply company out of Texas.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, a step-father Vernal Smith and a brother in-law Bill Sandberg. Survivors include her husband Dennis of the home, a son Chris Johnson and wife Holly of Columbus, Ks a daughter Lacey Branstine and husband Eric of Columbus, Ks three grandchildren: Bethany, Isaac, and Faith Johnson; four sisters: Janice Sandberg of Columbus, Ks, Lavon Lovell and husband Gary of Galena, Ks Marlene Clark and husband David of Galena, Ks and Glenda Ragland of Riverton, Ks.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Friday July 31, 2015 at the Calvary Baptist Church Columbus, Ks with Galen King officiating. Burial will follow in the Lone Elm Cemetery near Columbus, Ks. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday at the Calvary Baptist Church Columbus, Ks. The family suggests contributions to the Sherwin Christian Church in care of the Mortuary.
