Obituary for Gerald M. Dover

Gerald M.  Dover
Joplin, Mo. Gerald M. “Jerry” Dover, age 86, of Joplin, Mo. passed away at 8:15 a.m. Monday, August 22, 2016 at the home of his daughter in Broken Arrow, Ok. Jerry was born May 15, 1930 in Wilburton, Kansas and had lived in Joplin the last 60 years. Jerry owned Dover’s Service Station at 23rd, and Main St., retiring in the early 90’s. Jerry was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, and was part of the team that took care of the Church yard. He and his wife were volunteers with Crosslines Ministries, Jerry was an avid fisherman, and coin collector. He completely restored a 1920 Model T, and enjoyed showing it off in local parades.

Jerry married Betty Freihage March 25, 1950 in Pierce City, Mo. She preceded him in death on September 27, 2010. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Chapman, three brothers, Ellsworth, Frank, and Cecil Dale Dover, and two sisters, Ruth Prier, and Letha Andrews. Survivors include a daughter, Diana Cook, Broken Arrow, Ok., five grandchildren, Corey Ford, Colby Cook and wife Bridget, Nikki Ford and husband Dusty McDaniel, Brad Cook and wife Crystal, and Casey Callihan, and twelve great grandchildren. Jerry is also survived by a young man, Jack Smith of Joplin, who he mentored his entire life.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Gregory Mech officiating. Entombment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Chapel. Memorial contributions are requested to the Immanuel Lutheran School in care of the Mortuary. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary of Joplin, Mo.
