Obituary for Jessielene E. Harbin (Stephens)

Jessielene “J.E.” Harbin entered this life on November 25, 1936 in Joplin, Missouri, to Kenneth and Jessie Stephens (both deceased), and brothers, Charles Stephens of Inkster, Michigan, Herman, Robert, and Houston (all deceased). Her journey through life ended on Saturday, October 22, 2016. She was married to Carter “Sonny” Harbin (deceased) and leaves her children Carlos McClain, Chiquita Smith, Carter “Doc” (deceased), Charles, Cheryl, Crystal, Cornell, Colette, Corey, and Candy (deceased) Harbin; twenty-four grandchildren (one deceased); twenty-five great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.

She was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and attended Lincoln High School in Joplin where she was active in the school band as a clarinet player and well known across the four-state area as a phenomenal underhand fast pitcher for the “Joplin Blue Jeans”. She was employed first as a buyer for the Dixie Shops and later worked and supervised in areas of production being responsible for the inspection of components used in NASA’s space shuttles.

Services to be held on Saturday, October 29, at 10:00 a.m. at Villa Heights Christian Church Joplin. The visitation will be Friday, October 28, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Mason-Woodard Mortuary, 3701 E. 7th Street, Joplin, Missouri.

Contributions may be made in memory of Jessielene to your favorite charity.

Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
