Obituary for Nebuchadnezzar Marteja

Nebuchadnezzar  Marteja
Nebuchadnezzar O. Marteja, age 76, of Joplin, passed away on Sunday February 12, 2017, at Freeman West Hospital, following an illness.

Nebuchadnezzar was born on December 19, 1940 in Tuguegarao, Cagayan, Philippines, the son of the late Vicente Marteja, Sr. and Adela (Orlino) Marteja. He received his Bachelors of Arts degree from Colegio De San Juan De Letran, Philippines. He also, attended two years of Medical School. He married Arsenia Esmele on January 14, 1968, and together they raised five children. He worked as a manager of a ship repair facility in Saudi Arabia for twenty-five years. He retired and moved back to the Philippines. In 2004 he moved to the United States, beginning a career in Joplin with AJM. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was also a member of The American Red Cross. Neb, as his friends and family lovingly call him, enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden in the summer and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Arsenia Marteja, of Joplin; his children Genevieve (Edgardo) Vega of Olongapo City, Philippines; Rhea (Jose) Asistido of Joplin, MO; Iris (Albert) Manlapit of Saginaw, MI; Vincent (Rosario) Marteja, III of La Plata, MD; and Daphne (Ivan) Solano of Toronto, ON; his grandchildren Lawrence and Katrina Asistido; Vanessa, Marian, Vincent IV and Dave Marteja; Kenzo and Khanya Solano and Althea Vega; and step-grandchildren Michael and Sophia Manlapit. His siblings Zenaida Quinitio, Vicente (Lourdes) Marteja, Jr. and Pazleona (Tony) Espejo. He is pre-deceased by his siblings Antonio Jesus Marteja, Yolanda Marteja, and brother-in-law Mateo Quinitio.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Reverend Rahab Isidor will officiate.

A Rosary and visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. A second Rosary and visitation for family will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Mason-Woodard in a state room.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or The American Red Cross, in care of the mortuary.
