Obituary for Charlie Meadows

Charlie  Meadows
Charles G. “Charlie” Meadows, age 69, of Webb City, Mo., passed away on Friday June 5, 2015, suddenly at his home.
Charlie was born on August 6, 1945 in Vinita, Ok., the son of the late Joseph and Ola (Craig) Meadows. He has been a lifetime area resident. He served in the United States Army and the Army National Guard for forty-two years. He was drafted at the age of eighteen and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. After active duty he enlisted in the National Guard and became a helicopter pilot, serving in Panama and Bosnia. He retired on his sixtieth birthday as an E-8.
Before he was drafted he graduated from Vinita High School and accepted a wrestling scholarship in Ventura, Ca. He graduated from Northeastern State in Tahlequah, Ok with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He received his Master’s Degree from Pittsburgh State University. He taught Government for the Webb City R-7 School District for many years. He was the head wrestling coach and an assistant football and track coach. He then went to work for the Columbus Unified School District teaching and was head football coach and assistant wrestling coach. He retired in 2006.
He married Christine Seward on December 31, 1998 in the Bahama’s and together they raised their blended family. Charlie enjoyed attending sports activities and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church where he had attended for many years.
He is survived by his wife Christine Meadows, Webb City, Mo.; one daughter, Jessica Meadows Jordan, Neosho, Mo.; step-son, James Jordan, Los Angeles, Ca.; step-daughter, Kathryn Booher and husband Jason, Carl Jct., Mo.; three grandchildren, Dayton Jordan, Dylan Jordan, and Sophia Booher; one sister, Kay Stockbridge, Sumpter, Sc.; nephew Jason Stockbridge; niece Annah Fuller and husband Jonathan and their daughter Juli McCleod Fuller; his mother and father-in-law, Jack and Betty Seward, Webb City, Mo.; several brothers and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews; Joy Taylor and husband Tim, Gaylynn Morris and husband John, Robbie Stroud and husband Dale, the Sluder kids, the Taylor trio, the Russell boys, the Woodmansee duo and Bryar; his best friend, Gary Shepard, Lamar, Mo.; and his step-children from a previous marriage, Keith Addison, Teresa Harper, and Leann Addison. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Meadows; and by a sister Patty Meadows Anson.
A Memorial Service will be held at 5:00 p.m. Monday June 8th at the Southside Baptist Church, 4249 E. 13th Street, Joplin. Reverend Phil Owens will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be given to Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. or the Wounded Warriors Project in care of the mortuary.
